Our Stump Removal Services

Don't be stumped about a Tree Stump.

Making the decision to remove a tree may leave a stump in the ground.  Now, you will have to make a decision regarding having it removed. The stump can be left as it is; however, it can become a breeding ground for pests and diseases that can affect other plants and trees nearby. Additionally, a stump in an otherwise nicely landscaped yard can be unsightly and cause difficulties when mowing the lawn. You should be careful when mowing around the stump as the roots can damage the mower or harm you. For these reasons, it is best to remove the stump altogether.

It's essential to bear in mind that the stump will be connected to a web of roots. The size of the roots can vary significantly, ranging from 4 to 12 feet, depending on the age of the tree. Planting in the vicinity of these roots can be a challenge.

The removal of the entire stump and root system requires some excavation. To do so, the area around the stump must be dug up, exposing the root structure. After that, the existing system can be taken out. This leaves a gap which must be filled in later. However, this ensures that replanting is possible without any problems from the old roots.

Stump Grinding

An alternative way to get rid of tree stumps is to grind them down. This is much simpler than having to dig out the entire stump and its roots. Specialized equipment is used to break the stump into wood chips, which can then be used as decoration in gardens and other areas. Unfortunately, the roots remain untouched, meaning there is still a risk of tripping over them. It can take a long time for them to decompose, up to 10 years, and replanting in the same spot is complicated because of the roots.

If you're not sure which of the two stump removal techniques is best for you, the decision may come down to what you have planned for the area after the stump is gone. If you intend to plant something in the spot, it might be better to take out the stump and its roots entirely.
